A CARE home has scooped two silver awards at this year’s Maldon in Bloom competition.

Longfield Care Home in Maldon was recognised in both the Residential Care Home and Hanging Basket categories during the annual event, which celebrates gardening achievements across the community.

The competition encourages participants to create vibrant displays in a range of categories, including front gardens, community spaces, allotment plots and school gardens.

This year’s theme, Air, Sea and Land, was chosen in honour of the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Gina, home manager at Longfield Care Home, said: "I am very proud of our wins at the Maldon in Bloom awards.

"This competition inspires us to beautify our garden spaces, and everyone who lives at Longfield enjoys playing a part.

"It’s a wonderful way to celebrate people’s gardening talents and bring the Maldon community closer together."

Many Longfield residents are lifelong gardening enthusiasts and look forward to taking part in the competition each year.

Preparations began in April, with residents and staff working together to tidy the gardens and begin planting.

Over the following months, the group nurtured their displays, and by June, the garden was filled with red, white, and blue flowers, reflecting the patriotic theme and bringing a sense of pride to everyone involved.

Their efforts impressed the judges, earning praise for the variety and vibrancy of the plants on display.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Mayor John Driver and Deputy Mayor James Burrell-Cook, took place on Wednesday, July 16.

Elsie, one of the participating residents, accepted the certificates on behalf of the care home.
