A MAN has been arrested following a devastating three-vehicle collision in South Woodham Ferrers which left two women dead.

Emergency services were called to Burnham Road, Rettendon, at around 11.30pm on Monday, July 14, following reports of a serious crash.

Specialist road policing officers attended the scene and closed the road while an investigation was launched.

Tragically, two women who were travelling in a white Ford Fiesta lost their lives in the incident. The passenger, a woman in her 90s, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics. The driver, a woman in her 50s, was taken to hospital but sadly died from her injuries a short time later.

A 36-year-old man from Witham has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody for questioning as enquiries continue.

Essex Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

A police spokesperson said:“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, please get in contact with us as soon as possible. It may help us piece together the full circumstances of what happened.”
